Terms of Service

Effective 1 November 2026 · These terms apply to the Polaris Client launcher, the bundled PolarisConfig mod, and this website.

Polaris is free, open-source software licensed under GPL-3.0-only. It is a launcher and configuration tool, not a Minecraft account service. Use it lawfully, keep your own backups, and understand that it comes with no warranty.

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing or using Polaris, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Polaris. If you use Polaris on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you may accept these terms for it. Nothing here limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law.

2. What Polaris is

Polaris is an independent Minecraft launcher and configuration client. It installs game files, manages instances and mods, writes Minecraft options, launches the game, and provides optional social and in-game features. It does not sell Minecraft, provide Microsoft accounts, or operate a commercial account service. You need your own Minecraft licence and, for online play, your own Microsoft account.

3. License

Polaris is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 only (GPL-3.0-only). The full text ships with the app as LICENSE and is available at the repository. The source code is at github.com/eddddiwe/polaris-client.

You may run, study, share and modify the software under the GPL. If you distribute a modified version, you must provide the corresponding source under the same licence and preserve the notices. The GPL does not grant permission to use the Polaris name, logo or other trademarks as your own branding.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Follow the Minecraft End User License Agreement and Microsoft's terms when signing in.
  • Do not use Polaris to distribute malware, pirate Minecraft, bypass anti-cheat, or attack servers and other players.
  • Do not abuse the Polaris API: no scraping, denial-of-service traffic, or attempts to access other users' friend records.
  • Keep backups of worlds and instances. Mod updates, performance changes and installer updates can change files.
  • Verify downloads. The Windows installer is unsigned; compare its SHA-256 with the published manifest before running it.

5. Shards and cosmetics

Shards and cosmetics are local progress stored in your Polaris settings. They have no monetary value, cannot be transferred, and cannot be bought or sold. There is no checkout in this build, so there are no purchases and no refunds. We may reset or adjust local cosmetics in a future update when the feature changes.

6. Updates and installers

Polaris can check for updates and, when you choose Download Update, download and run a new installer. The app verifies the published size and SHA-256 before running it and exits before the installer touches the installation directory. Updates are provided as-is. You are responsible for keeping your own copies and for deciding whether to install a release.

7. Third-party services

Polaris links to and communicates with Microsoft, Mojang, Fabric, Modrinth, GitHub, Cloudflare and PlayerDB. Their terms and privacy policies apply to those interactions. We are not responsible for third-party services, mods, modpacks or servers, including content you download through them.

8. Reviews and testimonials

We do not publish paid reviews, purchased ratings, fabricated testimonials, or invented player counts. If this site ever shows a quote or rating, it will identify the source and be used with permission. Performance depends on your hardware, mods, server and settings; we do not guarantee a specific frame rate.

9. No warranty

Polaris is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, secure, or compatible with every mod, server or Minecraft version.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Polaris contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, account actions, server bans, or damage to your computer arising from your use of Polaris. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Polaris, which is zero. Mandatory consumer rights are not affected.

11. Termination

You may stop using Polaris at any time and delete your local data. We may suspend access to the Polaris API for abuse, or discontinue the API and the project. The GPL rights to the code you already have are not revoked by discontinuing the project.

12. Changes

We may update these terms as the project changes. The effective date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted in the release notes. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
