Polaris is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 only. You can run it, study it, share it and modify it. If you distribute a modified version, you must keep it free under the same license and make the corresponding source available.
1. The license
GPL-3.0-only is the license for the Polaris source code and the original assets in this repository unless a file states otherwise. The full license text is the authoritative document:
The launcher's About screen and the installer include a copy of the license and a third-party notice file. The GPL text controls if this summary differs from it.
2. What you may do
- Run Polaris for any purpose, including commercially, without paying a license fee.
- Study and modify the source code.
- Redistribute the original or modified software under GPL-3.0-only.
- Provide the software as part of a service, as long as you comply with the GPL.
3. What redistribution requires
- Provide the complete corresponding source code for the version you distribute, under GPL-3.0-only.
- Keep copyright, license and warranty notices intact.
- Mark modified files and state the changes and dates.
- Do not impose additional restrictions that conflict with the GPL.
- Include the third-party notices for the dependencies you ship.
4. Third-party components
Polaris uses Electron, React, Vite, TypeScript, adm-zip and other npm packages. Their licenses
remain with their authors; the project does not relicense them. The packaged app includes a
NOTICE file listing the main components and their licenses:

5. Minecraft and runtime downloads
Polaris does not distribute Minecraft, the Minecraft client, or its assets. It downloads game files, Fabric metadata and mods from their official sources when you ask it to. Minecraft is subject to the Minecraft End User License Agreement and is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB. Mods downloaded through Modrinth remain subject to the licenses chosen by their authors.
6. Names and marks
The GPL applies to the software, not to the Polaris name, logo or other project branding. Do not use the Polaris marks in a way that suggests your fork is the official project or is endorsed by it. “Minecraft”, “Mojang”, “Microsoft”, “Xbox”, “Fabric”, “Modrinth” and other names are the property of their respective owners. Polaris is not affiliated with Mojang Studios or Microsoft.
7. No warranty
As stated in the GPL, Polaris is provided without warranty. To the extent permitted by law, the contributors are not liable for damages arising from its use. See the terms of service for the full disclaimer.
8. Reporting a licensing issue
If you believe a file in this repository is mislicensed or a notice is missing, open an issue at github.com/eddddiwe/polaris-client/issues with the file path and the license you believe applies.
